About the speaker: Anura Manatunga is the present Director General of the Department of Archaeology, Government of Sri Lanka. Before assuming new post he was a Senior Professor in Archaeology and the Director of the Centre for Heritage Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. He is a Fellow of the Sri Lanka Council of Archaeologists and was the Vice President and a Joint Secretary of the Council for some time. He is a member of the Advisory Board to the Department of Archaeology, Government of Sri Lanka for last three decades. He once represented the Cultural Property Board of Sri Lanka. He was the Director of the Polonnaruva World Heritage Site of the Central Cultural Fund of Sri Lanka. He is the founder secretary of the International Association for Asian Heritage [IAAH] and was the head of the Department of Archaeology, University of Kelaniya. He writes poems in his mother language, Sinhalese since his school days and have published four poetry books.
